Saw Rammstein at the 2001 BDO. Fucking epic.

Saw Tool there in '07... something not right about it, like the buzz got lost in the arena or something. It was my fourth Tool show and my least favourite.

Perhaps because they take so long to release albums. They haven't yet released an album since the last time they played BDO, though I guess they'll at least have new songs to play.

Lots of interesting stuff on the Lilyworld stage, should keep me pretty busy. Keen to see Red Bacteria Vacuum, Reggie Watts and Billy TK Snr. Will have to miss the 1st half of Rammstein, not really a fan, but I'm guessing most of the interesting stuff will go down towards the end of the set. Not sure whether to see Deftones or Andrew W.K. or maybe half of each... I've barely listened to either.

Billy TK is a legendary NZ guitarist, well-known in the 60s, definitely check him out. Looks like Reggie Watts could be pretty funny.

well driving 2 car loads from the north shore - penrose in peak traffic while peakin off ya face. can be quiet an experience.
make sure you have plenty of entertainment. etc "cd's, and funny people in the car". oh and make sure those hidden people in the back under the cover stay hidden. motoroway patrol 10/7 feature would be funny as right now. i should ask the guys to post a reply with some of their experience. myself i dont go to BDO. never have. probably never will.

Well, it was my first BDO ever. Went there expecting to love Tool and Deftones. Deftones sucked in my opinion, the singing was crap, sounded like he wasnt even trying to sing the songs properly, missing out lines, screaming parts that should be sung, half-assed singing wrong melodies,.. dissapointing.

in the middle of the day I went to the boiler room to meet some friends and ended up staying... was blown away by this south african hip hop act Die Antwoord. surprisingly they win first equal place with rammstein as the highlight of my BDO experience, they were incredible. The quality of sound in the boiler room was shitloads better than the main stages (bouncy stadium sound sucks).

Rammstein was fucken amazing, sure all their songs sounded the same, and I'm not a fan really, but the pyro and theatrics were incredible. During the first song, the singer had lights in his mouth (you could see thin cords over his cheek into his mouth) whenever he opened his mouth to sing you could see the inside lit up like a jack-o-lantern, trippy as hell.

Tool - I couldnt get close enough to feel like I was even seeing them live at all, only really a couple thousand people could get close enough to enjoy it, and because they have visual effects on the big screen rather than close ups of the band members (like every other band had) it makes anyone who isnt near the front feel a million miles away. Tool arent a stadium band.

Was keen as to see Grinderman but it was pissing down... for some reason instead I decided to stand under a canopy near the entrance/exit for 45 minutes and watch thousands of broken wet shivering people trudge past on there way home. could faintly hear grinderman playing, in a strange way that is one of my highlights too, No pussy blues is always gonna remind me of that dire scene from now on.

Other mentions - hated Airborne, shihad bored the shit out of me, iggy pop was kinda cool, acid was definitely a good idea

Shame that. I agree.

I've seen tool once on the Aenema tour, twice on the Lateralus tour and once at BDO after 10,000 days came out. Every single time was mind-blowing, except for the BDO gig - just... nothing. It was like somebody had Tool on in the background at a party, I just didn't feel it (even being bent out of my skull didn't help).

Chino just sucks so bad on stage. I saw a vid of him trying to sing "Passenger" and it was downright fucking awful. Saw the Deftones in the early 00's at BDO and while they were "into it", he just barfed and gargled his way through it. Again, a shame - White Pony is one of my favourite "modern" rock albums.

Yeah aye, I dont get it, for someone who writes such ambitious vocal lines/melodies to be fine with performing it like utter shit on stage. Maybe he thinks displaying a lot of 'energy' jumping around acting nutty etc makes for a better show and is worth sacrificing a musically good vocal performance. Some people (including a proper reviewer) seemed to think it was awesome, but I think they were just choosing not to be critical and just go with it coz 'DEFTONES ROCK MAN!!'. All of my friends who I talked to were dissapointed though, we were all looking forward to them.

ive never really been a big deftones fan, owned the first couple of albums, but everything after that sucked until Diamond Eyes, started getting back into them a big way. from where I was Chino sounded great, sure he missed a couple of notes, but i like the fact that he improvises alot when he sings, i dont want it to sound exactly like the cd. curious as to what Stephen Carpenter uses as a guitar rig as saw nothing on stage bar a laptop and 2 cabs.

Rammstein owned. That is all.

Tool were boring, Ive seen them play all those songs before except Third Eye which was cool, but that what was when i bailed out of the D to take cover.

Kora were sweet, Mt Eden Dubstep was cool, great sound in the boiler room as i think someone already said. Wolfmother were good, cool Beatles cover and the Who cover, didnt play any of the lesser known stuff which i was a little gutted about.

Die Antwoord have to be the worst musical group I have ever seen in my life. I dont get it at all. Is it supposed to be funny? Cos it isnt.

Silent Disco was mad fun too.
