Hey just wanting to know who do u get do draw up your logo's and band imagery?
were looking for a graphic designer to draw something up for us. also a rough price quote etc

at the moment were using this on a full sized banner/backdrop its just a font.
Image

were lookin for a high quality / resolution logo that can be printed banner size and also smaller versions.
as to the style. perhaps check our http://www.myspace.com/blacklightconfiguration page and get a rough idea of our style of music and our concept to get ideas.

I reckon drawing it by hand or at least customizing the letters a bit is the way to go. A logo's not as interesting if it looks like it was made by someone who just picked a font and used the text tool.

Blacklight Configuration's an interesting concept which calls for an interesting logo with ancient symbols and things. Any logo designer should be interested in that.

These days alot of bands just use a standard font for a logo.

Lamb of God just use 'Papyrus' font, which is a pretty common standard font. just with interesting positionings of words, and 'of' a little bit smaller text than Lamb and God.

Easy peasy lemon squeezie

if you are thinking of changing to black or war metal, make sure the logo cannot be read by anyone and convert your myspace website to a facebook account

As long as you can make out the 13 pentagrams and 6 upside down crosses.

Lamb Of God modified the 'm', added lines and used good placement. Easy peasy for some people to do, but they obviously put a bit of time into it. It doesn't have to be complicated. It just ought to have its own style. Alternatively you could write the band's name in text and have a logo without the whole band name in it.

The font in the Blacklight Configuration image above is the same font that Godsmack uses. :P

I made a partially illegible logo as a kind of parody of the metal genre. My main concept was just to make people think "what the fuck, this is something different".

Dude, that orthianz logo looks real mint.
we like how u have made the Ambigram. we want the same/similar with our logo
we had one like this. kinda like "angels/demons" concept
Image
also we used a barcode generator to make this
Image
something with a bit of a mix/mash of these concepts. definatlyt he ambigram if possible. um atm. the words "blacklight confguration" wont work on many generators and the ones we got it to work on they want $20. so lets us know if u want the paid ambigram to work with.

well who ever comes up with a great logo.
you can email or pm me it.
ashyr@orcon.net.nz (also works on msn)
if we find something thats gonna work or heading in the right direction
we can discuss quote/price for your time and release of ownership of logo to us

exactly man. your on the button.

Re: Graphic designers

I've been in the business since the late 90's working for magazines & newspapers.

Been doing bands on the side for a lot of that too... a few freebies here and there has landed me payed work which is grrrrrrrreat. Ended up doing artwork for two Southern Amps and two Chartfests (maps, timetables, billboards, posters, flyers etc).

Also did the design & layout for both Tainted albums (+ the Scars single, which I wrote the lyrics to).

I'm a big fan of plain fonts for logos, but like to see the fonts fucked with. I'm not a big fan of the free "decayed" fonts floating around the net and prefer to fuck up the text myself (so every letter looks a little different).

Clarity is key - there's no point having un unreadable logo that looks like it was sketched on a napkin and faxed through (Unless you want to stay underground and have fifteen fans and be uuuuuber cvlt as fvck). I can't stand being sent low-res stuff (I cringe when I see a gif file that's 8kb in size!) and jpegs that look like they've been saved over and over and over and full of jpeg artifacts.

If you're gonna get into DIY stuff and you're not a designer it pays to take some time reading up on some basic principles of design & typography (might go into some of that later on). Also, knowing about resolution and the difference between vectors and bitmaps - there's so many baaaaad posters around and I think it can sometimes affect the turnout of gigs. Unless a punter can read your poster from a decent distance it's almost not worth putting them up.

I use the adobe suite at work (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) but prefer to work in Corel Draw.

Oh, forgot to say (where's my edit button!?!?)... plain font = good - just check it's not an overused font. That first example (is that abbadon?) gets used quite a lot in the metal scene.

Happy to dish out any advice... would offer some time but I'm pretty booked up right now - scored some freelance Mitre Mailers on the side between now & Xmas... fuckin $60 a page .... eight page mailers. ^_^

dude thanks for the information. im keen to hear more.
um if you can find the time to design a logo or a scratch. and we end up workin with something we will pay for your time. no doubt. and i like everything your saying there about reasoning with a logo and clarity.

um im thinkin something with geometry. mayb like how crop circles are like crazy shapes. sorta that kinda influence over the font design. but really simple and clarity. must be the key yes..

i have replied in your classifed thread.
but hey I did it first
actually no.
that ambigram of "the blacklight confuguration" has been around for ages. we've had 2 ambigrams in the past. and 1 that was a fake ambigram that got printed on hat/tshirts.

i just didnt want to post it because i knew this would happen.

not debating that bro. just it's "extremely coincidental" and quiet frankly i dont believe in coincidences.

yeah ambigrams are a great thing and like the idea of people using them
but 2 guys from the same scene in the same website
make 2 logo's in close proximity to each other. both using ambigrams. you get my point..?
