Hirsute (Wellington)

Hey everyone,

I've recently released a 6 song EP under the name Hirsute which is available for free download at http://www.hirsute.bandcamp.com .I've been slowly putting together recordings at home playing all the instruments myself while trying to get over RSI so I can get a band together and really start putting this stuff out there.

Anyway, it's pretty doomy - kind of like a slower, more miserable Opeth. Check it out, pass it on to your friends and let me know what you think!

Best wishes,

Justin

Vocals remind me of Katatonia - Brave Murder Day.

Downloaded, this is awesome*

The voice is reminding me a bit of an aussie band: Be'lakor

And you can sing clean and actually make it sound good. excellent

Are you considering making this into a performing band, or just a solo recording project?

*good lord, why are the files so large?

Hey folks, thanks for checking it out.

It has been loads of fun putting these tunes together at home, but ultimately I'd love to play them live. I've been having trouble for a couple of years now with holding chords and playing drums for extended periods, but things are slowly improving. Once my RSI is out of the picture I can't wait to put a band together and I'm hoping that these recordings will help build up a fan base before the big launch, whenever it may be. I'll hopefully take guitar and vocals. And see you all there 8-)

I think bandcamp.com let you choose the file type to download. You upload WAV files and they let you choose between various different formats when you download them. These recordings are all pretty rough anyway except for Anticipation and Succumbing to Violence, so I doubt anyone is missing out on much by opting for the low quality MP3's.

I've got Be'lakor open on myspace now - tasty stuff! I'll definitely follow these guys. Sounds kind of like half Opeth, half Katatonia.

Thanks heaps for downloading everyone, feel free to flick this off to a many people as you can. I've just hit 40 downloads in total, so it's cool to know that my music is out there somewhere. I'll get a facebook page up and running soon so that hopefully Hirsute won't be toast in a few days time :)

They're definitely mp3's
Between 16mg and 22mg each. Never mind.

You mention playing drums, I assumed the drums on the E.P. were programmed, are they not?

You have excellent vocals anyway, so if it came to worst case with the RSI you still have that, heres hoping it continues to improve though (the RSI that is)

Bandcamp's mp3 options are all high quality, that's why they're large. The VBR option saves a bit of space over the 320 option.

Obzen, the drums are all recorded via the line outputs of my roland td9K electric kit. It's o.k as far as toms, snare and kick drum goes but it really lets you down with crash riding. Plus, some of the samples really aren't too convincing. I have heard that you can take the midi data and 'fix' it to create flawless drum tracks but I have never really looked into it. I'd love to record with an acoustic kit, but in Wellington with super close neighbors and other flats attached left, right and centre it's a bit of a challenge.

I'm pretty stoked you thought they were programmed though! Haha, there are certainly a few ultra-loose parts in the first few tracks. Thanks for the compliment on the vocals too by the way - I've always been a bit hesitant about doing those myself. Glad to know they're coming accross OK :) Cheers!
