KYUSS LIVES! In WELLINGTON – SUNDAY 15th MAY
Hunter Lounge, Union Hall, Victoria University R18

Pre sales for the Wellington show are available from Tuesday 15th March at 9am via Ticketmaster
Sign up at http://www.muchmoremusic.co.nz for all pre sale info

Desert rock pioneers KYUSS LIVES! will perform one Wellington show on Sunday 15th May at the Hunter Lounge, Union Hall, Victoria University.

Kyuss Lives! will perform their first ever New Zealand shows at the end of the Australasian leg of their world tour. Global demand for the Kyuss Lives! experience has been so high that SOLD OUT signs have been added to marquees everywhere. Australian shows sold out rapidly as did the first announced Auckland show.

The Friday 13th May show in Christchurch has been cancelled due to the effects of the recent earthquake tragedy. Ticket refunds for this show are available from point of purchase. If this is not possible please contact info@muchmoremusic.co.nz.

Due to the Christchurch earthquake, the Auckland shows are now on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th May (SOLD OUT!) at the Powerstation , with the windy city capping off the New Zealand leg on Sunday 15th May.

KYUSS history ........
In October 1995, just three months after releasing what was arguably their breakthrough album And The Circus Leaves Town, the influential stoner rock group Kyuss broke up. The band has been on an indefinite hiatus ever since leaving fans wandering the desert in search of new thrills.

Now, after reaching legendary status Kyuss are recognised as “desert rock pioneers and poster boys for stoner rock” , influencing thousands of rock bands all over the world, three quarters of Kyuss have regrouped and are coming to New Zealand to play three eagerly anticipated shows in May 2011.
Featuring original Kyuss members singer John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri and drummer Brant Bjork they will be joined by Bruno Fevery on guitar.

Singer John Garcia says ... "Kyuss Lives! is sounding more like Kyuss than Kyuss ever did.....that's how well it's going. Bruno Fevery has stepped up....not only filling Josh Homme's shoes, but to add additional flare, style, class and of course that overall desert groove.....hope you have a ticket and see you soon!!!"

Original guitarist Josh Homme’s Queens Of The Stone Age recently cancelled a Wellington engagement the week of the earthquake.

Yeah, seems like a real unusual choice of venue...
How many people does it hold? Maybe they're trying to be a better TSB Arena capacity venue?

Sounds like the capacity is going to be 1000. How come they describe it as "Hunter Lounge, Union Hall"? Is the Hunter Lounge next to the Union Hall room and can they be turned into one big venue or something?

I went to NOFX at Union Hall in 2007. The gig was oversold and some people weren't allowed in. I don't really remember how big the space was for that gig, maybe 600+ people.

Yeah wouldn't really have a clue how many people would fit in there.I'd say get ya tickets now tho!It has a mezzanine floor right around it but wouldn't fit many and the big oval bar takes up a bit of room also 3/4's of the way across the venue.

Concert dreams are getting more frequent for me. They usually occur before the actual gig, although the Slayer dream was months afterwards. It's like getting 2 gigs for the price of 1, and they tend to play a song I wanna hear. Last night I saw Kyuss at the Kings Arms and it wasn't even packed. The band was rotating members for different songs. I barely recognized any of the band members and some of them seemed to be girls, but my subconscious told me it was Kyuss so I'll go with that.

haha what a bi-winning post.

I dont usually dream about the gigs, but hanging out with the band members and telling them how great I think they are.
Met Eminem not so long ago (when I was listening to heaps of Eminem), told him I wished he would go back to Slim Shady LP style.

Two supports for the New Zealand Kyuss Lives! shows have been selected by KYUSS

The Auckland shows will be opened by Billy TK Snr & Doug Jerebine – New Zealand’s own godfathers of psychedelic stoner rock. Billy TK Snr cut his teeth in the late 60s/early70s plying his trade-marked freaked-out-wah-wah-flavoured-fuzzzzz with local acid rockers The Human Instinct. As Jesse Harper, Doug Jerebine wrote the best songs on the first two Human Instinct albums and has spent much of the last 40 years as a monk in India translating ancient sanskrit text. His album from 1969 will be officially released by US label Drag City later this year on LP. With a powerhouse rhythm section of Miles Gilette (ex Fluf & Salad Daze) and Chris Orange (ex Terrorways of Short Haired R+R fame, and ex Features) - Billy and Doug may be in their sixties but their shows of last year had jaws dropping in awe of the psychedelic racket made by these two senior citizens. Think cranial-mashing fuzzed out guitar duelling of interplanetary proportions and you’re half way there.

Wellington’s scuzzmeisters Beastwars will open the Wellington show on Sunday 15th May. Their debut album of skull mashing rock is released in May on all popular formats including a gatefold sleeved LP.

Anyone have any idea about the playing times for the Wellington show? I have to get on the last train back to Upper Hutt at 11:05pm, am I likely to miss anything? because if it means I have to miss any Kyuss then I must arrange somewhere to stay in town for the night
