Definitely an aftershock, same fault plain, but obviously more energy focused on the city itself this time. Not to mention the death toll, easily the deadliest NZ disaster in my lifetime (Pike River mine was holding the record until today ).

Back on the grid. Got power, internet. No phone, no water. Only just got power back so I've been doing things Macguyver styles. MAN MAKE FIRE!!!

Getting shocks as I type this, fucking sick of it.

The thing that sucked the most was having all communications out. My cellphone was low on battery power when it hit and went flat pretty quickly as I tried to contact people. Off to help the clean-up at my fiancee's work (she's office admin at pak n save.) Hopefully we can get some supply hookups.

Keeping an eye on facebook for news of friends in my extended network. Things aren't looking good for an old school buddy of mine who works in the CTV building.

Leaving ChCh has crossed my mind but really anywhere in NZ is dodgy.

Just looking up footage now... heartbreaking. This shit is gonna take ages to get over.

Not sure which one, but saw one of the guys from Human (with the cool eye) at Matts funeral in Wellington. Earthquake happened during the funeral. would've been a sucky day for him.

yeah, ive talked to lots of ppl the news coverage of this is absolutely shocking, its so crap.

im not even going to begin to mention the bs.but i will say this.

over 200 whales on beaches, 30,000 tons of ice falling off, over 200 doctors in chch night b4 for neurologists conference. navy and army performing drills the day of the quake in chch, major planetary alignment in which it was already said to watch out for , largest CME in 4 years. and to top it of a full moon.. can it be any more ripe?

I've already butted heads with that guy. A rather unpleasant prick if you ask me.

So far there's zero science to back up any of his claims, and when questioned about that, he gets all uppity, threatens defamation lawsuits, or just drops out of the conversation. He must google himself, because he's all over the internet, often arguing himself into corners.

The moon-earthquake link is tenuous at best, not sure about the sunspots (I'm sure actual scientists would have noticed by now? Not some ex maths teacher/children's entertainer/author on cat palmistry who actually thinks the moon is a planet.)

The total pull of all the planets combined is 0.017, not even 2% of the Moon's pull!

Ken Ring points out patterns when they fit, and ignores all the other quakes and weather patterns that don't fall into this little pet theory. Count the hits, ignore the misses. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Yep, and he's backed off from that now.

I've seen varying responses from people who have emailed him about it. Sometimes he said he never said it at all.

He can always use his "But it's only my opinion" get-out clause.

Who knows, there may well be a quake on that date, but there's no causal link to tie in Ken's theories and he seems to think science "has it in for him" so he won't submit his ideas to real scientists. So we're left with a waffling old guy on the internet selling books (I say waffling because he's prone to ranting when asked difficult questions, obfuscating his answers)
