Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration

Postby Dead Kid » Thu Sep 22, 2011 11:55 am

Album to be released late October. They've posted a 30s sample of the first single:

Hard to judge it from such a short sample, but I think I'll like it. It's funny how similar Reed sounds to Hetfield. No doubt the weirdness of the music will confuse most bogan Metallica fans.

Wow, very intruiging. I cant see this vid at work, due to restrictions

but interesting article here Metallica fans slam Lou Reed taster
h ttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/ ... d=10753543 "Commentators on YouTube, where the video has had more than 600,000 listens in just three days, also showed their disapproval, with 1883 "dislikes" to only 916 "likes"."

Real keen to check this out when I get home. unless someone can direct me to a non-youtube sample?

Doesn't sound very good from that sample. 30 seconds of Lou Reed talking awkwardly over music...

I agree not too optimistic about this. I am curious to listen to the album tho.

Haha. That's basically almost everything Lou Reed has done...this has Hetfield's vocals.

My first impression too.

Bloody awful actually.

Just that Metallica sound with Reed talking on top. Doesn't fit.

Every time I hear that Lars drum sound I want to punch him in the ovaries. Fuck man, sort your shit out.

Full track.

Fucking awful.

I've stood up for Metallica a lot over the years, they're my favourite band.
But this is really, really horrible.

Listened to the full track...

How embarrassing for everyone involved.

What a pity, they had just recovered from the St Anger disaster.

But this is painful, and looking at the youtube comments, likes/dislikes, people seem to hate this even more than St Anger.

Most of the response is from offended/upset metallica fans, maybe Lou Reed fans will like it.

Listen to "Mistress Dread" and try not to laugh!

It sounds like some creepy old dude broke into the studio and recorded himself raving over the top of a Metallica demo.

Well, I managed to just smile at it, but it's nothing too unusual for me. First I had to finish laughing at your post though!

I bought the album and I enjoy it. Haters gonna hate. It's amusing how long the second half of the album drags on. It's as if the metal kinda runs out and it goes into more of an alternative rock thing. Since I'm not much of a Lou Reed fan, I'm presuming it's the 2nd best album he's ever done, the 1st being Metal Machine Music. Both are majorly significant in their respective genres, but in the case of Lulu it's table rock.

Meanwhile, around the web:

Yeah, but I like punishing myself with stuff that stretches the definition of music. It won't be in my top 10 albums of the year though. I haven't listened to it in a while actually, better give it another hoon this week. It takes commitment because it feels longer than it is.

The Montreal Gazette gave it 5/5 stars: http://www.canada.com/entertainment/Rev ... story.html (perhaps they're trying to be the new Lester Bangs)
