Hey everyone,

Bar Medusa is starting up a monthly gig for bands wanting to have their first gig at a proper venue. It will be hosted on one Thursday of every month and we are planning on having 4 bands/acts per night. If you are in a new band/DJ/solo act and would like to play somewhere supportive for your first gig, just email bar.medusa@gmail.com. We supply the PA, sound engineer, lights and advertising. This will be a great opportunity for Wellington audiences to hear new music and bands and to pinch them for their gigs as well. The first evening is planned for 21st October and places will fill up quickly so hurry up.

wicked. if it can last. it will be a great asset to up and coming acts/bands

what about first tour. say a band coming thru wellington for the first time?

Yeah hopefully we'll get quite a bit of interest. We are really keen to embrace new bands and show them a good time before the harsh reality of the music business hits them. haha.
Yeah first tour could work too although I suspect that would be less frequent.

so we get a "pa + soundman + gig" bookin for our first visit (as our new line up) to wellington.
are we able to take on the door? or is more a "all exp paid opportunity for bands?
keen either way. let us know. whats your lighting like. audio triggered strobe + smoke? auto lights?
viable projector placement?

Yeah it's more like all expenses paid type thing. We would chuck $5 on the door and we would take it to cover the sound guy and posters etc. It probably works out the same but it means that the bands don't have to worry about doing anything except bringing their gear.
We've got a lighting rig (really I should know the details of this but I don't) and smoke machine. We've had a projector set up here before but currently we don't have one although would like to get one in the future.
I hope it is popular. With this place getting busier all the time it would be good to have a permanent night for new bands.

Our first monthly 'First Gig' night at Medusa is already in motion and we are looking to get some more bands on board. At this stage we have two mostly female young bands playing and are wanting another 1 or 2 bands. The venue pays and organises PA, sound guy, advertising and all you have to do is bring your gear (drum kit supplied).
