RAZORWYRE!!!

After a year of bringing sweaty, true metal to the masses on the Wellington home front and across the country, GAYWYRE have opted for a name change. The beast that is GAYWYRE has exploded onto the scene and spread beer-fueled mayhem in the spirit of traditional heavy metal, and has plans to continue doing so. We felt that our intensifying metal onslaught deserves a name that reflects the energy, aggression and direction of the band, and have opted to re title ourselves RAZORWYRE. The new title, a joint decision from all GAYWYRE personnel marks a strong connection to our early history, and is a reference to a song lyric in the 'Coming Out' EP track 'Suspiria'

RAZORWYRE now look forward to bringing you more of the 'wyre and continuing to develop the familiar cutting, true heavy metal sound they are known for. This name change does not mark a retreat from our integral heavy metal roots, or our thirst for partying hard with our loyal friends, but rather the continuing development of our hard-edged metal-assault sound. You can still expect an exciting atmosphere when you party with The 'wyre! Currently, we are forging high-octane new material for our first full-length album, which we promise will be an enthralling start to finish offering in the tradition of our debut EP.

BIO:
The initial idea for RAZORWYRE was conceived by Chris Calavrias and James Murray in 2008, whom both had a strong desire to write and perform heavy metal music in the true style of the 1980's. Though ideas were discussed, and initial material was written, it wasn't until later when the project began to come to fruition. Through partying at the notorious Lorne Street practice space, the two guitarists met like-minded individuals who shared the passion for traditional forms of metal music. Drummer Nick was recruited first, followed by bassist Simon, and then the line up was completed with the addition of vocalist Z Chylde.

RAZORWYRE began playing in early 2009 under the banner 'GAYWYRE' and promptly set about spreading beer fuelled mayhem and true, traditional heavy metal throughout hometown Wellington, and laying waste to the cities of New Zealand. Gathering a reputation for an aggressive, thrashing blend of '80s inspired heavy metal, and an energetic, raucous party-atmosphere live show, the band soon began to assemble loyal following.

With things progressing and the band's reputation growing, coupled with the development of a harder-edged sound developing, The 'Wyre decided a new name was needed - in order to reflect the changing nature of their speed metal assault. A joint decision was made by an excited band to rebrand the project RAZORWYRE, in April, 2010, which captured the violent, thrashing tone of the music. RAZORWYRE are preparing to set about a new campaign of complete heavy metal annihilation on the cities of New Zealand, and beyond.

Theres no way in hell I'd be in a band with that name...
But I actually thought it was very clever because, when I saw it on a poster for the first time I thought ‘you gotta be kidding me, who would name there band that?’ and checked them out on myspace out of curiosity and thought they were pretty damn good. If they had’ve had a usual metal name like…. ‘Severed limb’ or ‘deadly force’ or ‘Flamecorpse’ I wouldn’t of checked them out. Probably the case for a lot of other people too, which is likely part of the reason they have become quite well known in a short space of time.

You forgot the fact that these guys completely rip it up live. The name might have got some people to go along to their shows, but people stay and come back for more because the band is fucking awesome. Changing the name is good though, I never really cared about it personally, but I can see why they'd want to remove that gimmicky aspect from their appearance.

But yeah, these guys are so fucking legit. If anyone here is from Wellington and hasn't seen them yet then SHAME ON YOU.

If anyone lives on Earth and hasn't got the EP yet then shame on you. Naming the EP 'Coming Out' was really clever and it worked well with the band name.

'Flamecorpse' would be kinda gay too, haha.

Cheers for your support, but plenty of people haven't got their copy of the EP yet - we've sold out. Printing off another 200 i think, but we're hoping to have our full length out at the end of the year! :)
