rusty strings..?

Postby lungeater » Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:03 pm

hey all,

i haven't been playing guitar long, but was just having a jam and noticed some orangey/brown lines on my fingertips. on closer inspection, it seems to be rust on a few strings. do i need new strings or what?

this is my first guitar so i haven't re-string'd before or know much about what strings to get, etc. some tips for a newbie?

p.s. it's just a squier strat, all standard. came in a box with a mini practice amp. if that info's needed..

Hi, welcome to the forum
Great form of bravery to ask such a question.
Alas not were not a bunch of elite metal guru's who will lather you up with mouthfulls of do's and dont's
Yep strings wont last long and will rust from the sweat from your fingers.
pretty much.
my recommendation would be.
a classic set of d'addario .46 to .09 's. there your average standard string.
around 12-20$ depending where u go.

if you want to down tune. you may want to consider a custom gauge of your liking or something which most ppl do is just ad a B string on there. or get a 7 string =D

This guy has the best deals and excellent service. Don't pay more than you have to and don't try changing the strings before you've read half a dozen 'how to's and bought a tuner.

You'll be amazed at how much brighter the guitar will be after!
