STUFFED!

I propose a thread devoted to the horrible inaccuracies or heinous grammar found on the news site Stuff.co.nz.

This cannot go unnoticed: The witness droved past the pair, then did another u-turn.

That's not even spellchecked!!!

Oh fuck that's really poor!

I spot frequent shitty grammar and spelling in that site. Dodgy double cut & pastes too (repeated paragraphs and missing portions of paragraphs.)

It's fine if it's something that's said in context, you know, when you see (sic) in a story.

I worked for a newspaper in the ad design department and was shocked at the low level of basic spelling and grammar was. I was constantly fixing errors made by green designers (green is what I call newbies) and immigrants. Some of them were minor but when you're providing a professional service for an advertising client, it's embarrassing when a street name or company name is spelled incorrectly.

Same for the journalists. The chief editor expressed his concern at the spelling capabilities of younger journalists.

Yeah, they are rather appalling. If they don't proofread their articles, you can't really trust their facts to be correct either. I like the design of their site though, and they tend not to miss a good story.

Here's one showing that they copy and paste stories from other news websites without subsequently reading them:

The original sentence was spell-checked. Droved is a word.

They need humans to read the articles and clearly don't have them.

Stuff isn't the only one that makes copy/paste fuck ups:

when a freak solar storm caused auroras to be seen as far south as could see an aurora but not until Tuesday evening

Found the original:

when a freak solar storm caused auroras to be seen as far south as Alabama, the northern lights aren't likely to dip too far south this time, Biesecker said. Parts of New England, upstate New York, northern Michigan, Montana and the Pacific Northwest could see an aurora but not until Tuesday evening
